Far too often Brides are faced with the dilemma of saving her friendships verses saving her wedding day. Either choice is too much for a Bride to be considering when she is preparing for one of the most important days of her life. Every Bride has an idea of what she wants from her wedding party, and unfortunately, trying to communicate these wants can be a bit challenging. Your team is made up of family and close friends and that alone makes a Bride feel that each one should know her every want and need…well that is not always the case. Let’s take a moment and identify the top three elements for successfully managing a bridal party:
1. Communication is Key - This statement is so cliché, but is so very important. I’ve heard so many brides say “She should have known…” or “He knew better..”. Well chances are they didn’t. So make sure you over communicate on every expectation and don’t be afraid to have your wedding planner or day of coordinator to be the facilitator or point of contact for all messages to your wedding party. This method tends to be the most effective as wedding planners are neutral participants and have great experience diffusing confusion and bringing calmness to the most bizarre storms.
2. A Time-Sensitive Timeline – No one likes to arrive anywhere hours before they need to be, and no one wants to feel rushed because they don’t have enough time. Be mindful of everyone’s agenda the day of your wedding. Having a well thought out timeline will work wonders for not only your wedding party, but for your vendors and all other wedding day participants. Taking the time to do a mental walk through of how you want your day to flow will give you such great insight on where everyone should be and when events should take place on your special day.
3. Dress for Success - When choosing attire, hair and makeup, taking a collaborative approach to finding the right look will be easier for everyone — especially you. Every bridesmaid is unique, from their personality to their size. That’s why you picked them right? Their look should be a combination of this uniqueness and talking through what they have in mind allows you to gently provide your opinion. Having them show you pictures is a great help as well and bridges the gap in deciding on that perfect look for your wedding party. It’s a win-win for everyone.
There are several other elements that should be considered when managing your bridal party such as avoiding last minute changes, pampering your wedding party, understanding the expenses of your wedding party, and knowing when to ask a participant to step down.
